History of Czech & Slovak Society of Indiana The society was formed in 1983 from the ideas of two gentlemen,Mr. George B. Tintera and Dr. Hanus Grosz. "Czechoslovakia Society OfIndianapolis" became a member of the "International Center OfIndianapolis Inc." in 1983 and participated in their "InternationalFestival" that year. From a roster of known Czechoslovakianfamilies in Central Indiana, George and Susan Tintera graciouslystarted hosting fellowship meetings in their home and did so forseveral years. The Society began to grow, so a President and a Treasurer wereestablished along with a family dues to cover expenses. Aroundthis time, several families were arriving from Czechoslovakia, so theSociety was very happy to welcome them to the United States. Along with the fellowship meetings, in June of 1985, an annual picnicbegan. Presently the Society sponsors a summer picnic and aDecember dinner meeting. In March of 1990, the name "CzechoslovakSociety of Indiana (USA)" appeared. The name of theorganization now is "The Czech andSlovak Society Of Indiana" and was established in 1993. TheSociety has had great fellowship meetings and activities under severaldedicated officers in the past and is looking forward to a greatfuture. |
