Czech Garlic Soup Recipe

My blog, Czech Off the Beaten Path, has been around for almost two years now.  Looking at the stats for Czech Off the Beaten Path, I am continually amazed to find that the top post is "Garlic Soup--Cure for the Common Cold!"  This post consistently brings traffic from the search engines.  In honor of this most popular post, I would like to present a traditional Czech recipe for Garlic Soup.  Enjoy!

Traditional Czech Garlic Soup
8 cups broth (beef or chicken--can be from bouillion)
6 cloves of garlic (more or less, according to your personal taste)
1 t. salt (more or less according to your personal taste)
1 t. marjoram
1 t. freshly ground black pepper
2 T. butter
2 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
1 t. caraway seeds
2 T. parsley (fresh or dried)
Optional--slices of bread, cubes of cheese
*Note:  To make this a gluten-free, wheat-free soup, use GF bouillion and bread.

Preparation:
1.  Mash garlic with salt, or use a garlic press, and then mix crushed garlic with salt.
2.  Place mix of garlic and salt into a large pot, add broth and slowly bring to a boil.  Reduce heat and let simmer.  Add caraway seeds, potatoes, marjoram, and butter.  Simmer uncovered till potatoes are tender (about 20 minutes).  Add pepper.
3.  Fry slices of bread in butter or bacon drippings until golden brown.  Place a slice of bread in each bowl and ladle garlic soup over the bread--sprinkle with parsley.  Can also add cubes of cheese before serving.
