About Me

In RL, I'm an engineer and programmer who's worked in a couple of different technology fields.  My academic background originally was aerospace engineering, but I've branched out into signal and image processing, computer vision, and mathematical pattern recognition.  I do a LOT of algorithm development and software implementation, working with things ranging from assembly code/C code in real-time embedded DSP systems to Windows GUI development in C#/.NET.

In SL, I'm a scripter.  I love being able to see my code come to life interactively on the grid.  I primarily do custom scripting for my partner, Nimue Jewell, to use in the low-prim furniture she sells at her store (Prim Pincher), but I also sell a few random items I've made at my shop, The Mathom House.  I've been in SL since March 2007; we've bounced around a few different mainland locations, but in summer 2008 we settled in to our own private island, Nimue Isle.  We host our shops there, and have set up about 1/2 the sim as a public area for dancing, cuddling, or just hanging out (The Romantic Forest at Nimue Isle).

 What I do

I spend a great deal of time making my scripts as low-impact as possible.  They may not be perfect, but I do everything I can to make them low-lag and low-memory, so they're as kind as I can make them to both the sim they're running in and to any avatar that interacts with them.

I'm not really up for doing "custom" scripting projects, or selling my scripts directly as-is.  All the furniture-related stuff I do is for Nim and Nim alone :).  Beyond that, my plate is generally just too full (both in SL and RL) to be able to provide a level of service and support I would be able to feel proud of for doing custom work.  I will VERY occassionally do a custom job, if it's not too involved (so I feel confident I can deliver a quality product on a reasonable time line) and if I find the project/intended use interesting or compelling in some way.

I do want to offer my encouragement to any and all who want to learn to script in Second Life.  Some great resources for getting started:

  • LSL Wiki (http://www.lslwiki.net/lslwiki/wakka.php?wakka=HomePage) Great resources for getting started, example scripts, a script library, and a great LSL function reference
  • LSL Portal on the Second Life Wiki (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Portal) Similar content to LSL Wiki, slightly different source...
  • Scripting Tips and Scripting Library Forums on the official Second Life forums (accessed via the Second Life website) -- good general scripting discussion and helpful people willing to answer your scripting questions

I'm also more than willing to at least make an attempt to answer questions from new and learning scripters.  (Incidentally, I'll always consider myself in that category... I've learned a lot but don't pretend to know everything there is to know about LSL!)  Drop me an IM or send me an email any time!  I may not answer immediately, but I promise I'll respond.

My Shop (The Mathom House)

There have been a few things I've tinkered around with that I've felt have been good enough to warrant trying to sell them; so, after much prodding from Nim ;) I went ahead and set up a small shop to try and do just that.  As I said above, I'm not so much for selling scripts directly, nor for doing custom scripting work.  I sell a few things that are "vehicles" for scripts I've made that do cool or useful things, though.  Generally speaking, I sell my objects mod/copy, with no-mod scripts -- I want my customers to be able to change the look of my scripted objects to suit their own tastes, and to have the flexibility that comes with having copiable objects (including keeping an "original" unmodified copy in their inventory, and not having to worry quite so much about the asset server having a bad day and eating their stuff!).
