Cary YMCA Boys Volleyball Club FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) What is our philosophy and mission of CYBVC? Our primary focus is to teach BOYS the game of Volleyball and provide a fun, healthy and positive learning environment. Every BOY, regardless of skill level, is a valued member of the club. We conduct our practices and games to encourage individual player and team development. We encourage athletic skill development, healthy competition, fair play, and good sportsmanship, not just "winning the game". We believe every BOY should have the opportunity to excel and learn the game of Volleyball, a great Sport for Life. Excerpt from "A Parents Talk to a Child before the First Game" - Coach John Wooden But, it passes, this feeling. And what lasts is what you’ve learned. And what you learned about is life. That’s what sports is all about...Life. When do we start? Our season normally starts in the first weeks of November and ends at the end of May. Of course, if we are lucky enough to have teams participate in USA Volleyball Junior Olympic National Championships we will continue to practice until the first weeks of July. Our season generally has two parts, the first is single day North Carolina. The seasons focus is primarily individual skills development and giving all boys an opportunity to grow with the sport. The second part is a little more serious with the inclusion of multiple day travel tournaments to Boys East Coast Championships in Richmond and in USA Volleyball Junior Olympic National Championships held a different locations around the US. Team selections are first offered to YMCA Members then to Program Participants to fill vacancies. All tournament teams are held to eight members to encourage participation and provide ample playing time. Teams are formed and one day a week practices are started in November. USAV Tournaments mostly on Saturdays from 9-5pm at various locations in North Carolina. Our summer program includes Beach Blast Outdoor Sand Series volleyball for boys 14 and under age groups. The tournament format is "King/Queen of the Beach" style doubles volleyball tournaments once a month on the third Saturday of June, July, August and September. No team or partners needed. These competitions include awards for the "King" of each tournament and a "Series King" of the summer for the best overall series points. Opportunities for Parent Coaches and Team Representatives are always welcome. **** Our club a non-profit organization and is entirely operated by Parent Volunteer Coaches and Administrators. **** How do I get my Son involved? If you’re new to CYBVC and want to get into our communication loop, just send an email to bemagee@mindspring.com and ask to be put on the Club’s email list. What programs does the Cary YMCA BOYS Volleyball Club offer? CYBVC offers volleyball programs for BOYS of ages 10 through 18 years old. Our players become USA Volleyball (USAV) members and train to participate in the Carolina Region of USAV volleyball events. What other opportunities do BOYS have to play Volleyball in the Raleigh area? Unfortunately, we are the only a few club programs in the State and may be the only Boys clubs in the South of NC. No High School and only two Men's College programs (Lees McCrae and Mount Olive) are available in the State for BOYS. The closest BOYS teams are located in Richmond Virginia.
