Research and documentation will also be addressed, as will rhetorical purposes and strategies. This introduction to college-level writing is somewhat experimental in that we will use various digital platforms — email, blogs, wikis — to develop, enhance, and distribute our writing projects. You will improve your ability to read, write, and think critically, and at the same time you will become more adept in the use of these increasingly important online tools. The course is divided into three units, dealing with three broad topics, each leading to a final essay. The first draft of the essay will be shared with your classmates for peer review, and the second draft will be submitted to me. In addition to these three polished essays, you will be expected to do various kinds of informal writing, digital and analog, at home and in class. Your success in the course will depend on your demonstrated ability to complete all the assignments and to improve your writing through revision, as well as your full participation in ongoing conversations, in class and online.
