5 May 2009:
Cape Town's latest bouldering area was unveiled this past weekend at the National Bouldering Finals. After a week of watching the weather forecasts and making various back-up plans in case of rain, everyone was relieved when Saturday the 2nd of May dawned clear and cold. Heavy clouds still hung over the mountains, and the drive up to Redhill was quite misty, but the boulders were cold and dry. The competition kicked off at 11am and the skies where clear, dispite rain in many other parts of Cape Town. The competitors were all very impressed by the quality of the problems and the beauty of the area and everyone had a good time attempting the varied and testing lines. The Ladies Open category featured some visiting American climbers, their results will be dropped from the rankings in determining the nationals champion. Therefore, Julia Chen moves up to claim the honours, followed by Ilse Labuschagne in 2nd and Emma Boyd in 3rd. The results are as follows:
Huge thanks goes out to all the sponsors: The Mountain Club of South Africa, Bouldgear, CapeStorm, LaSportiva, DMM, Wild Country, Black Diamond, Saltic, Beal and Rock.Frog and the marshalls Mat Rowe, Calvin Kemp, Giedrius Šmigelskis, Justin Hawkins and Chris Laidler.

WP: The 6th round of the WP Bouldering League was held at Perfect Health in Stellenbosch and the evening featured some very hard and technical face problems, a change from the usual cape power style on steep terrain. Andrew Wood was not far behind in 2nd place with another tie for 3rd between Anro le Roux and Phlip Olivier. 24 Mar 2009:
KZN: The KZN bouldering league moved into an interesting phase after the 4th comp. Climbers can now drop their worst comp scores as only their best 3 comps count towards their overall positions. This allowed Damien Chatteris to move into a solid 3rd place, with Benjamin De Charmoy in second and Mat Schneuwly still dominating the men’s category in first. After missing the last comp due to illness Rachelle de Charmoy bounced back and secured a confident lead in first place in the women’s category. Following a slow start Candice Bagley got the highest score in this comp and is now putting a lot of pressure on young Jasmin Pillai for the second spot. The 14 year old Jason Salt is looking strong and is only kept from the top place in the Boys under 18 Boys category by some great climbing by James Barns. Stephan Lutge has edged into 3rd knocking Henricus Roux down into 4th place. The league is getting exciting and we all look forward to see what the next event will hold at the always challenging Maritzburg Varsity wall. Will Mat and Rachelle be able to fend off the challengers, we will have to wait and see... See attachments below for full results.

WP: The 4th round of the WP Bouldering League was held at the Neelsie wall in Stellenbosch. Phlip Olivier claimed 1st place on the night, being one of only two climbers to manage an ascent of the powerful problem 14. Marijus Šmigelskis had to settle for 2nd place despite being the only climber to complete all of the hard problems, after taking a bad fall whilst finishing off his remaining easier problem. Fortunately the X-rays revealed no fractures and he should be back in 2 to 3 weeks. Andrew Wood finished in 3rd place on the night. Cidney Scanlon won the ladies open field once again, with Julia Chen in 2nd place and Anita Nordeide in 3rd. The 5th round will be held at CityRock on FRIDAY, 27 March at 18:30

WP: The 3rd round of the WP Bouldering League took place at UCT and had a better than expected turnout, even running out of scorecards. Marijus Šmigelskis took first place in the mens open, completing all but one of the 15 problems. Andrew Wood and James Smith both sent 12 problems, but Andrew managed to get further on the long and sustained problem 14 to claim 2nd place on the night. The 4th round will be held at the Stellenbosch University's Neelsie climbing wall on the 17th of March. See attachments below for full results.

26 Feb 2009:
WP: The 1st round of the WP Bouldering League was held at the brand new UCT bouldering wall and featured some excellent problems. The event was well attended and the close proximity of the swimming pool proved invaluable on one of the hottest days of the year. The Mens Open field was dominated by Ben Harper, with the only sends of problem 15 and the super reachy 14. Marijus Šmigelskis came in second on the night with an unmatched highpoint on problem 13, followed by Andrew Wood in 3rd place. American exchange student Cidney Scanlon reigned supreme in the Ladies Open category, far ahead of the field with an ascent of problem 12, a problem that even stumped many of the men. Gosia Lipinska came in second, with Anita Nordeide not far off in 3rd. There was a 3 way tie for 4th place which included Julia Chen, last year's provincial champion, who is making a strong comeback after spending the past 2 months in bed and hospital battling a liver disease. The 2nd round will be held on the 3rd of March at Perfect Health in Stellenbosch. See attachments below for full results.
20 Feb 2009: KZN: The second leg of the KZN Bouldering league was another great comp held on a stormy summer’s night. The route setters did a great job which kept the competitors busy. The problems were both challenging and entertaining; especially the problems on the vertical walls which got even the strongest climbers puzzling over the correct sequence. Rachelle De Charmoy traveled down from PMB to stamp her authority onto the leading women’s posting. Jasmin Pillai and Ayanda Madonsela showed up their older competitors got move into the second and third positions respectively. Matheiu Schneuwly continued to dominate the men’s section being the first to dispatch problem 6 which involved a series of mono pockets through a horizontal roof. James Barns is sitting in second and Zoig is currently holding third place. See attachments below for full results.
