South Africa has a huge amount of rock through-out the country. There are many areas in several provinces. Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape and Gauteng Provinces have several areas, but the Western Cape is definately the centre of South African bouldering.

Rocklands

Cape Town Areas

Boland Areas:
Paarl Rock - granite bouldering an hour from Cape Town

Du Toit's Kloof and Krom River Mountains
- hopelessly under-developed areas with hundreds of boulders

Bain's Kloof
- a sensitive area with restricted access at present

Agamma Atra
- similar rock to Rocklands, above the town of De Doorns

Kleinmond - a small area with mostly moderate sport routes and some decent bouldering.

Other Areas in South Africa:

Eastern Cape:
Hogsback - excellent potential in a beautiful setting. Only a few boulders developed so far...

Alicedale - quartzite bouldering near Grahamstown.

Stutterheim - the focus of recent development in the Eastern Cape. Excellent climbing in a forest setting.

Cape St Francis - bouldering on the coastline, not nearly as good as the surfing in the region.

Kwa-Zulu Natal:
King Solomon's Mine - a small area in Pietermaritzburg.
Umgeni Valley - excellent potential to be Kwa-Zulu Natal's premier bouldering area.

Free State:
Eagle Mountain  - climbing on the reserve formerly known as Mount Everest.
Swinburne - decent bouldering on soft rock just North of the Drakensberg Mountains.

Gauteng:
The Glade - scrappy urban bouldering.
eZemvelo - excellent bouldering with loads of potential on a beautiful nature reserve.

Mpumalanga:
Kaapsehoop - a brilliant area on perfect rock on the edge of the escarpment.

Gold Rush - a remote but quality area on the banks on the Truer River.

Sabie Gorge - potentially Mpumalanga's best area. Only a tiny bit has been developed.

Malelane Gorge - quality granite, a lot of rock, only the surface has been scratched.
