Curriculum Studies (CS), as an interdisciplinary field, endeavors to understand the pedagogical significance of the curriculum. CS arises from a reconceptualized approach to studying questions— such as What is knowledge? Who gets to decide? How does knowledge affect lives?—in light of critical scholarship leading to democratic community building. CS assumes an ethic of social action that honors diversity and demands respect for all people.
Unlike curriculum development or curriculum instruction, it moves beyond translating theory into teaching practices or infusing practice with theory. Instead Curriculum Studies inquires into the relations of the curriculum, individuals, societies, and interdisciplinary themes, while critically examining educational issues and policies in light of scholarship in Psychology, Philosophy, Social Foundations, Pedagogy, and Andragogy. | Curriculum Studies students at TCU have many professional backgrounds and aspirations, which include schools, businesses, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and communities. The students share a desire to assume roles in solving educational problems in these settings.
