Professor responsibility for extreme class averages.

It has been proposed that when the results of a block test are analyzed, and there is more than 25% of the class failing, or more than 30% of the class with A's, that the professor must submit in writing to administration an explanation as to why they let this happen.

Stage of Proposal:
The proposal has been implemented and is currently in effect.

Pro's:
May deter professors from writing exams with extreme levels of difficulty
May set a precedent in general for professor accountability
May provide a physical record for administration of a professors exam trends

Con's:
May not be effective if explanations can be vague and quickly written

As I understood it, the rules stated:
25% or more F's will require explanation
30% or more students receiving A's AS THE RESULT OF A CURVE will require explanation. The committee seemed to agree that lots of people getting A's without curves was a good thing that didn't require explanation.
