Our schools are broad but not deep – they train for jobs, not for life.  This is superficial preparation.  Mind is the key; it needs to be quiet to learn, environment needs to be nourishing, teachers need to be compassionate and open minded, heart is to be opened.  Criticism does not belong here. 

     Raga    Theory

   Indian Classical Music is the foundational basis of all musical expression.  It is the oldest form of music recorded.  It is, some say, older than the mountains.  Folk music has its origin here.  Improvisation originates here.   Scales and different tonal colors are found here.

James Duke was a professional musician at the age of 16.  He gave up a career in music to study spirituality which took him to India for more than 2 years of his life. He has studied philosophy and meditation with Masters of the Vedic Traditions, and music with noted Gandharvaveda musicians in India and the US.  He played in big band jazz groups with musicians who had been with the bands of Ralph Marteri, Ted Heath, Benny Goodman, and Tommy Dorsey. He worked at IBM, tutored high school students, taught international meditation courses in Europe and the US, has been trained in India.
