Our goal with any obedience training at Pampered Pet is to help you create a more well rounded family member.  We will have small classes which allows more one on one attention. Generally each class will last from 1/2 hour to 45 minutes.

Group classes are Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.  Dogs are welcome to begin at any time and if a class is missed you can make it up the following week.  Private training classes are scheduled to fit your convenience.

Prerequisites for admission include:
  • Proof of vaccinations
  • Six foot lead and training collar
  • Sociable dog
  • Age of at least four months at first class
  • Cash, check or credit card for $85 payable the first night you attend class

Note:  We guarantee that if you are not satisfied with your training at the end of the five weeks, we will extend the training at no additional cost, until you are satisfied.  You are also welcome to return for refresher visits for as long as you own your pet.  This can be a wonderful way to extend your dog's education as well as provide a social event that many pets enjoy.

For any questions, please call the trainer directly at 621-7427.

Pampered Pet's trainer's qualifications include over twenty years of experience in training dogs.

She is the previous owner of East Central Illinois Dog Obedience School, and has trained and shown dogs in both conformation and obedience for AKC competion.  She trained and placed the first Support Dog for the Handicapped in the state of Illinois, and lobbied at the state level to help pass a bill to allow Support Dogs the same rights as Seeing Eye and Hearing Ear dogs.  She has also trained and placed several Hearing Ear Dogs.

Which dogs are easiest to train?

According to dogproblems.com:

5.  Australian Shepherd: A very smart breed, they learn new commands
quickly and are very stable and almost never get defensive.

4.  Doberman Pinscher: Definitely one of the most intelligent breeds.
Find one with good ball/play drive and there is pretty much nothing
this breed can't do.

3.  Border Collie: One of the ultimate working dog breeds, they have
a tendency to be on the sensitive side.  But if you recognize that,
these dogs have a jaw dropping ability to work with their handler/owner.

2.  Golden Retriever: These dogs are pretty much always happy and
simply a joy to train.  Even if it's drizzling outside, these dogs
have an eternally 'sunny' disposition.  They are also the most forgiving
of breeds, which makes them excellent for the novice handler.

1.  Poodle: With most dogs, it takes 5 or 6 times, before they
understand a new command.  With many Poodles, you can tell them
twice and they 'get it.'  One hundred years ago, they were used as
circus dogs.  Apparently, they've maintained much of their
intelligence and trainability.  We just love working with the Poodle.
