Questions

Let's use this area for questions and answers.

Here is Brent's response to a couple of questions from Amy HIleman (postd with her permission).

People are reporting problems posting directly here, so send Brent and note and he'll post itLet's share our knowledge about these things together.

____________

Performance-Based Assessments (PBAs)

Mauricio: Do I have access to the latest competencies and PBAs?

Brent: Attached below are the latest PBAs, being implemented into LiveText this semester. If you have earlier ones from your handbook, you may go by those. The ones below contain minor edits from what was earlier in the handbooks.

How Do I Determine Project Scope

Mauricio: How do I determine our project scope (leadership vs. management)?  I think I get the idea but because I will be doing lot's of different things I need to make a decision as to whether which one I fall into most of the time.

Brent: Your internship should reflect the competencies you still need to work on. For example, if you've had IT 6999 Leadership and Practice, or IT 5160 Managing ILT Programs, you may have already done the Management competency. If you haven't yet participated in a change/leadership effort, then you should focus on the Leadership competency. If you've done all the competencies, then you're free to work anything professionally worthwhile to you. [See also response below.]

How Many Reports for How Many Competencies?

Amy: In looking at the two PBAs for the Internship, am I correct in assuming we will hand in 3 separate reports?
Management Report
Change Strategy Report (Leadership - change strategy)
Leadership Report (Leadership - participate/lead a change process)

Brent: No not necessarily. You would typically submit a single report. It depends on which competencies you need to address in the internship. If you’re doing both management and leadership, then you’ll need to demonstrate both of those outcomes, per the PBAs. If you’re just working on one of them (e.g., the Leadership one – since you very likely completed the Management competency in IT 5160), then I’d suggest a single report. You can work in multiple competencies into a single report.

The two pieces of the Change PBAs are available if you work on different projects. If it’s a single project, just one report makes sense.
