Director, Centre for Micro and Nano Systems Professor, Dept. of Mechanical and Automation Engineering The Chinese University of Hong Kong Prof. Wen J. LI has been with the Dept. of Mechanical and Automation Engineering since September 1997 and currently heads the Centre for Micro and Nano Systems at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He was educated at the University of Southern California (BSAE 87’; MSAE 89’) and the University of California, Los Angeles (PhD 97’). Before joining CUHK, he held R&D positions at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Pasadena), The Aerospace Corporation (El Segundo), and Silicon Microstructures Inc. (Fremont). His research group has published more than 200 technical papers related to MEMS and Nanotechnology and has won best conference/student paper awards from the IEEE Nanotechnology Council (IEEE-NANO 2003) and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE-ICRA 2003, IEEE/ASME AIM 2007, and IEEE-ROBIO 2007). His students have also won several IEEE local and regional paper contests, and their papers were selected as finalist papers for Best Conference/Studrent Paper contests from several IEEE conferences since 2000. He is recognized world-wide for his research contributions in CNT-based sensors and has been invited to give conference keynote and invited lectures world-wide. He has served/is serving as a guest editor for the IEEE Trans. on Automation Science and Engineering, the IEEE/ASME Trans. on Mechatronics, and the IEEE Sensors Journal on special topics related to MEMS and Nanotechnology. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine, and the Managing Editor of the IEEE Review of Advances in Micro, Nano, and Molecular Systems, and an associate editor of the Journal of Micro/Nano Mechatronics. Dr. Li’s research has been continually funded by both basic and applied research agencies in Hong Kong and China, including the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission, Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Chinese National 863 Plan. Dr. Li has also been very active in serving the professional communities and commercial sectors. He was the Program Chair of IEEE-ROBIO 2004 and the General Chair of IEEE-ROBIO 2005, and was also the Organizing Chair of the 1st IEEE-NEMS (2006) and the General Chair of IEEE-NANO 2007. Currently, he is a member of the Administration Committee of the IEEE Nanotechnology Council, a Scientific Advisor to Virtus Advanced Sensors (USA), and a Distinguished Overseas Scholar of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is an affiliated professor at the Shenyang Institute of Automation and a guest professor at Peking University. He has also co-founded two startup companies commercializing MEMS-based human motion sensing technologies at the Hong Kong Science Park (Sengital Ltd. and Virtus Asia Ltd.). Wen J. Li is a member of the AAAS and ASME, and a senior member of the IEEE. 1997年获UCLA(美国加州大学洛杉矶分校)微机电专业博士学位。 |
