There are several Arrow of Light requirements which are not necessarily a lot of fun to work towards (learning the Scout Law, etc.). However, this can also be turned into a fun "trivia" style game (perhaps enhanced by the chance to win scouting-related prizes).
The game involves a moderator (or MC) asking the scouts questions related to the Arrow of Light requirements and awarding points for correct answers. These are the basic rules:
- The scouts are divided up into two teams (let's call them Team A and Team B).
- Some mechanism is used to decide which team goes first (let's assume Team A).
- The moderator asks the first scout on Team A one of the questions.
- If the answer is correct (at the moderator's discretion) Team A is awarded one point and the moderator asks the next scout on Team A a question.
- If an answer is incorrect Team B has the opportunity to "steal" control of the questions. The first scout on Team B is responsible for answering the question but he is allowed to first consult with his teammates.
- If the "steal" answer is correct Team B is awarded one point. Team B takes control of the questions, and the moderator asks the next scout on Team B one of the questions.
- If the "steal" answer is incorrect Team A retains control of the questions, and the moderator asks the next scout on Team B one of the questions.
- Play continues as described, with the scouts on each team being asked questions in rotation.
- A scout is allowed 30 seconds to answer a question, though 60 seconds is allowed for "steal" answers.
- If a team answers 10 questions in a row correctly, control automatically goes to the other team.
- The game ends when all questions have been asked or a predetermined point total is reached.
