Tour Permit Changes Begin March 1, 2011

posted Feb 9, 2011 11:49 PM by Scott Bomwell

The National Office has made policy and design changes to the tour permit policythat become effective Tuesday, March 1 to the Tour permit Process. The significant changes are:

  • Online permits will be suspended utill further notice.  All tour permits will need to be emailed, faxed or hand-delivered to the Volunteer Service Desk at the William Lyon Homes Center for Scouting. The National Office has not provided a timeline for when the online approval process will return.
  • Tour Permits are now called “Tour Planning Worksheet.” Upon review by the Volunteer Service Desk the unit will receive the approved “Tour Plan”.
  • All old tour permit forms should be destroyed and not used.  The Council website will have the new forms posted prior to Tuesday, March 1.
  • Volunteer Services will approve all Tour Plans for local, national & International activities at the local Council office.
  • No extra training requirements are required by leaders at this time.
  • Requirements for Youth Protection Training, climbing, swimming, shooting sports, etc remain unchanged.
  • Units will need to fill-out Tour Planning Worksheets completely to expedite approval.
  • New Item: The signature of the registered unit Committee Chair or Charter Representative is one of required signatures on all Tour Planning Worksheets. The tour leader is the second required signature.
  • With the loss of the Online Tour Permits, all Tour Planning Worksheets will require more time for review by Volunteer Services to verify adult registration and training.
  • Please allow plenty of lead time when submitting in your request with a minimum of 72 hours. We will continue to process Tour Planning Worksheets in the order that they are received.
  • Tour Planning Worksheets can be sent to etourpermits@ocbsa.org or faxed to (714) 546-8706.
  • Attached is the link to the new fillable Tour Planning Worksheet http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/680-014_fillable.pdf that will need to be used beginning March 1.
