Webelos to Scout Transition
The trail in Scouting does not end in Cub Scouting; it is only the beginning. Webelos Scouts in Pack 3842 are expected to transition to a Boy Scout Troop and it is our job to help ensure that transition.

Preparing a Scout to make the transition is the responsibility of the Webelos Den Leader. When a Webelos transitions to a Troop, many changes will take place. Cub Scouting is an adult led activity. While adults serve as key leaders, Boy Scouts lead and hold leadership positions and plan the troop's program.

The passage from our Pack to a Boy Scout Troop should be smooth, with no time lost in between. By the time Webelos Scouts are ready to cross over in March, they and their families should be familiar and comfortable with the youth and adult leaders of the troop, their role in the troop and troop activities, and feel excited about beginning this new adventure. The Webelos Scout's graduation ceremony should clearly signify his transition to a new level of Scouting.

A Webelos Scout who has earned the Arrow of Light Award has now completed all the requirements for the Scout badge and may join a Boy Scout troop.

Stillwater Boy Scout Troops

Part of ensuring the Webelos to Scout Transition is the visitation of Boy Scout Troops. As a Webelos Den, you will have the opportunity to visit Troops as a group. As you visit Troops, you may wish to return with your parents to a Troop that you feel you might want to join. Each Troop has a different feel to it and it is up to you to find the Troop that is right for you. Here are the Troops in Stillwater.

When visiting a Troop, take a copy of the Troop Checklist to help you ask questions.

Webelos Troop Activities

Many Troops offer Webelos Woods or Webelos Weekend activities. These activities give the Scout an opportunity to see first hand what life in the Troop is all about. Participate in every Webelos activity with a Troop that you can. Many of these activities are listed on our Pack Calendar.

Webelos Transition in March
Our Pack works to transition Webelos Scouts to a Scout Troop in March. There are several reasons for this
  • New Scouts will have an opportunity to get to know their new Troop before summer camp.
  • New Scouts will have the opportunity to camp with their new Troop before summer camp.
  • New Scouts will have the opportunity to earn advancement and become familiar with new advancement processes.
Joining a Troop
Your son can be a Scout if he has earned the Arrow of Light Award and is at least 10 years old. In fact, if your Scout has earned the Arrow of Light, he has earned his Boy Scout Rank.

Included in the requirement, you must be able to demonstrate the Scout sign, salute, and handshake. Demonstrate tying the square knot (a joining knot). Understand an
d agree to live by the Scout Oath or Promise, Law, motto, and slogan, and the Outdoor Code.Be able to describe the Scout badge and participate in a Scoutmaster conference.

Your First Summer Camp
One of the most exciting things about Boy Scouts is the memories that you will make at Scout Camp. In order to maximize your memories there are a few tips you should be aware of.
  • If you are not a strong swimmer, take swimming lessons and practice. Summer camp takes place all around the water. There is boating, canoeing, rowboats and of course the pool that will be cool and refreshing after a day of working on merit badges.
  • Learn knots. You will need them when you begin to camp.
Consider Being a Den Chief
Now that you are a Boy Scout, consider giving back to our Pack as a Den Chief. The Den Chief is the activities chair of the Den and helps to encourage Webelos to transition to Boy Scouts. You get to help kids become better Scouts and they will look up to you as a leader. Plus, the Den Chief position will fulfill ranks leadership requirements in Boy Scouts. Talk to your Scoutmaster about the next Den Chief training and how you can give back and be a part of the Webelos to Scout Transition.
