TRAINED LEADERS
Every Scout deserves a trained leader. Training will help you deliver the best program Scouting has to offer and your position is easier knowing what is expected and how to go about it. Training will help you learn what resources are available and training is fun!


What makes a Trained leader?

• All leaders must complete Youth Protection Training (YPT) before their application will be accepted. After becoming a leader,  Youth Protection Training must be completed every two years after. Complete YPT at MyScouting.org
  
• New leaders must complete Fast Start Training. Fast Start is avaliable at MyScouting.org
  
• New leaders must complete This is Scouting. This training covers the aims, methods, and mission of Scouting; organization; finances; resources; youth development; and guidelines for a safe program. This is Scouting is avaliable at MyScouting.org
  
• Cub Scout Leader Specific Training is the nest step in becoming a Trained leader. Cub Scout Specific offers training for the position you hold -- Tiger Cub Den Leader, Wolf Den Leader, Bear Den Leader, Webelos Leader, Cubmaster, and Pack Committee Member. Assistants included. Learn about advancement, your position responsibilities, planning, and meeting structure. All leader specific training is avaliable online at MyScouting.org
  

All leaders who have contact with Scouts, including the Cubmaster, Assistant, Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders must complete YPT, Fast Start, This is Scouting and the training for their position in order for the Pack to recharter.

Where is training?

• Youth Protection Training is offered online via MyScouting.org
  
• Fast Start Training is offered online via MyScouting.org
  
• New Leader Essentials training is offered online via MyScouting.org.  
• Cub Scout Specific training is offered through the Pawnee Bill District.
  

How do you sign up?
For online courses through MyScouting,org, once you are registered member of the BSA, you will receive a membership number needed to register for MyScouting.org.

For classes offered through the Cimarron Council or Pawnee Bill District, pre-registration is usually required and fees are minimal. Sign up forms available through the council web site, at roundtables, and at the Council Service Center. Pack 3842 will pay for the Cub Scout Specific Training for leaders. Information on upcoming trainings can be found on the Council calendar.
 
UNIFORMS FOR LEADERS
The Boy Scouts of America has always been a uniformed body. Its uniforms help to create a sense of belonging. They symbolize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Wearing a uniform gives youth and adult members a sense of identification and commitment. Direct contact leaders, including the Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders are expected to wear the proper uniform. Non-contact leaders, including Committee Members, are encouraged but not required to wear the proper uniform. Cub Scouts in Pack 3842 wear the official Cub Scout uniform during Pack meetings, Pack outings, Den meetings, field trips and any time you may be representing Scouting.

• The official uniform for leaders includes the khaki shirt with blue shoulder loops.
  
• One set of patches will be issued to you as a leader and they include the Council Shoulder Patch (patch with the state of Oklahoma and the words Cimarron Council), Pack Numerals (red with white "42"), World Crest Emblem (round purple patch), and Den numeral (will say Den X) if appropriate.
• Webelos Den Leaders whose Dens have chosen to wear the Den emblem, instead of Den numeral, do not wear the emblem.
  
• Your badge of office will be presented to you by the Pack.
• Official uniform pants are available. Pack 3842 allows Scouts to wear blue pants or jean s as part of the uniform. Pants and jeans should be neat and have no holes.
  
• The Scout uniform should be tucked in at all times.

Uniform Tips

• It takes a little longer but sewing patches works better than glue.
• Long sleeve or short, it is your choice. We recommend the short sleeve shirt as it is more comfortable during the summer months. During winter months, long sleeve undershirts may be worn. Blue is the preferred color.
  

Knots and the Order of the Arrow

• Leaders are encouraged to wear appropriate knots they are entitled to wear. These knots may include Scout awards like the Youth Religious Emblem, Eagle Rank or Arrow of Light. 
  
  
• Leaders are encouraged to work on the appropriate knot for their position. These Scouter awards include the Tiger Den Leader, Den Leader and Webelos Den Leader recognitions. Knots are awarded during the district banquet. Links to leader recognitions are located on the Resource page.
  
• If you were a member of the Order of the Arrow, you are encouraged to join the Ema 'O Mahpe Lodge and to proudly wear the Lodge flap.
