Starting a new Grand Chapter:
A Grand Chapter is the authoritative chapter in each state, province, or country. The Grand Chapters oversee and approve the formation of associate chapters within their jurisdiction. To form an Associate Chapter, please contact the GC in your area.
Where we have no existing Grand Chapter, one can be easily started by any Master Mason along with 5 brothers who are interested in doing so. Your group must elect or appoint your group of Founding Officers. The Officers are: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Guardian of Membership, and Sergeant at Arms.
The next step is to draft a set of Grand Chapter By-Laws. We have sample By Laws of various chapters which can be used as a guide or template in adopting your own. Your chapter By Laws may be revised and updated as needed at any time. Once you have prepared your By Laws, a copy must be sent to one of our Association Representatives, plus a list of your officers and a means for contacting you. Your contact information must include a physical mailing address and phone number. By Laws and contact info may be sent via email, fax, or postal mail.
Before investing too much time in preparing your By Laws and electing your officers, it is customary to report your intentions to your Grand Lodge or Grand Master. Make sure that your Grand Master does not have any reservations in regards to his members participating in our organization and try to get his approval or blessings. The Widows Sons are NOT an appendent body of Freemasonry, but an independent social club of brethren who ride. We do serve as an ad-hoc "Masonic Booster Club" by supporting our Blue Lodges through our active attendance and supporting lodge events. Normally, we should not have to seek official Grand Lodge approval, but you should check with your local Grand Lodge policies and regulations.
Once you have the blessings of your Grand Master or GL and have submitted your required paperwork your Grand Chapter will become official and you will be authorized to order patches, logos, and other Widows Sons regalia. But before making such purchases, it is required that you check in with your local MC, 1% club, or Coalition of Clubs. The purpose is to introduce yourselves and explain that the Widows Sons are an International Riding or Motorcycle "Association", and that we are not allowed to be MC supporters, and are not territorial. You must find out if there are any local MC regulations regarding patches or rockers, and assure them that your chapter will respectfully comply with their policies.
The last step is very important before your group starts to ride with identifying patches. If you do not get approval or do not comply with local MC or COC policies, your members may be required to purchase new patch or rocker configurations, or possibly even be shut down. Our goal is to be able to ride safely and maintain good relations with the more serious members of the motorcycle community. Our Association Representatives are always available to assist you and consult with you regarding the specifics of avoiding problems with the predominant Motorcycle Clubs.
To start up a new chapter, The following Representatives or Advisers will be able to help get you started.
