Fair Trade Celebration

posted 8 Feb 2012 04:25 by Ralph Shephard

The arrangements for the visit of Anton Bowman, the banana farmer from St Vincent are finalised.  We shall have a Fair Trade celebration on Thursday 8th March at 19.00hrs in the sixth form common room at Wallingford school.  I am relying on CTWA members to provide a selection of delicious cakes, preferably made with fair trade ingredients (happy to give a discount at JT for ingredients) as well as a good audience.

There will be short presentations from Anton and someone from the Fairtrade Foundation and a question and answer session.  Then refreshments.  We shall also have a couple of FT stalls.  There may be a few other activities, such as a quiz.

Donations of cakes will be gratefully received and can be left at JUST TRADING, 17, St Mary’s Street.

Wednesday Church continues - next meeting 7th September

posted 18 Jul 2011 03:32 by Ralph Shephard

After a trial period, this is now a fixture! Jenny Loder writes:-

Our trial period has come to an end and there is great enthusiasm for us to continue. We had a congregation of 42 at our last meeting and ended our worship with a circle dance which brought broad smiles to the faces of even the least communicative of our members.

Please note that we shall not be meeting in August so our next meeting will be on September 7th. We have also agreed to begin and end earlier as this will be more convenient for the members and their carers, so we shall start at 10am and end at 1pm. This is all on the poster.

If you would like to drop in on a session at St Peter's you will be very welcome. Please remember to bring a packed lunch if you will be with us at lunchtime.

Thank you for your interest and support,

With best wishes,

Jenny Loder

Street Pastors training

posted 6 Jul 2011 06:24 by Ralph Shephard   [ updated 6 Jul 2011 06:40 ]

We had our first training session, for 11 Street Pastors to be at Ridgeway church on June 25th. This module is called 'Roles and Responsibilities' and is one of the 4 that Street Pastors must do before going out on patrol. Now the challenge is to find a time to train the remaining volunteers. Neighbouring Oxford have invited us to join their training but it's not until October! We continue to work on this.

We also are trying to arrange the next three modules - Police Liaison, Drugs awareness and, of course, the Good News.

I hope we can commission our first group to go out on Patrol by the end of August - it all depends on the training and volunteers' availability!
