My name is Carlos, and in a matter of days I will become a college graduate. Over this past year, I've been counting down to the day when I would walk across that stage, shake some hands, and keep on walking. Having been a student for the past 18 years, I'm more than ready to move on to something new. For what has been almost two decades, my entire identity has revolved around my education. Though I plan on going to graduate school and eventually getting a PhD, I feel it's in my best interest to take some time off before accomplishing those major tasks. That being said, it appears I have the world before me to explore. I'm hoping to do lots of fun and exciting things with my life. I would love to take part in the 9-5 grind of the "real world" that I've always been told about. It's different, therefore it's something I'm excited about. Sometime in the future I would also like to participate in a long-term service project, anything akin to Peace Corps. I would describe myself as a socially responsible leader dedicated towards making a positive change in the world. I am proud to say that I took the Pledge of Social Responsibility prior to graduation and it is something I plan on taking seriously throughout my career after college. The pledge reads: More about me: I am a Chicagoan, born and raised. |
