who we are
The Centre for Training and Community Development (CTCD) is a business of Community Connections Australia – a not-for-profit organisation specialising in human service delivery, particularly to people with disabilities. Community Connections Australia has extensive practical knowledge and experience within the disability and human service arenas and we are committed to helping people with disabilities become an active part of their communities.
CTCD provides a wide range of training courses, consultancies, special events and publications to people working in the human services and particularly to people with disabilities. We are one of the few training organisations to have developed a range of personal growth and experiential learning courses for people with various disabilities.
Any profits made by CTCD go back into our Disability Support Service that helps people with disabilities to live in their own households across the Sydney metropolitan area.
what we offer
The Centre for Training and Community Development offers consultancy services, disability awareness training, in house training for staff or service users and a range of publications.
Committing to a course or training programme developed by CTCD will ensure that your organisation receives competitive rates and fast, customised service.
consultancy services
Our consultancy services can identify the training needs of any organisation within the human services.
Specifically, we can:
-
help carry out skills audits and training needs analysis to identify what skills and competencies your staff and organisation require;
-
design customised training courses and programmes for your staff and/or service users, including course structures, learning outcomes, assessment criteria and learning materials;
-
help your organisation understand and apply the competency-based learning programmes of the Community Services Training Package in your organisation;
-
undertake “hands on” mentoring with your organisation to identify or address specific issues;
-
and review and update your organisation’s policies and procedures.
disability awareness training
CTCD offers disability awareness training to organisations providing support to people with disabilities as well as public and private sector organisations. The training is presented by people with disabilities and is intended as a useful refresher for people already working in the human services arena or as an orientation to disability work for those who have just begun their career.
Medium to large businesses and corporations in the private sector will also benefit from hearing speakers share their experience of what it is like to live with a disability.
in-house training for staff and service users
We specialise in developing customised in-house training courses for support staff and service users in disability organisations. We also provide corporate governance training for Boards of Directors and Committees of Management.
In-house training helps improve staff and/or service users’ skills and builds morale. When your organisation books an in-house training course or series of courses with CTCD your organisation will also receive:
-
a training quote and proposal customised the meet the needs of your organisation;
-
training at a time and date that suits the organisation. Your organisation’s programme can be extremely flexible and can run from a half day through to several days;
-
training at a location that suits the organisation. This means we can arrange a central meeting place or we can use your organisation’s existing training facilities. Organisations may also choose to coordinate customised training in association with other local services. This is a particularly good way to get the training your organisation requires at affordable rates in a convenient location;
-
and training facilitators and/or consultants who have extensive experience in the disability sector.
publications
Publications for both organisations supporting people with disabilities and for people with disabilities are available to purchase. They contain useful checklists and activities that complement the material covered by our in-house training courses and they can also be used as a stand-alone reference.
