General Etiquette and Behavior
-
Aerials
(Flips, Lifts, Throws, and Drops):
Aerials are strictly forbidden at any Swing Dance Society at CSU event. This is due to liability, so please respect our organization and refrain from doing any aerials.
Due to the mass of Highschool and undergrads that are out on the dance
floor there is an undeniable intrest in aerials. They're flashy,
they're cool, they're often breathtaking and they're always dangerous.
Too many people have been hurt due to people executing aerials, when
they have not learned the proper safety and etiquette. All arieals can
be dangerous, but a few can be done with less practice required than
others. We suggest that if you are interested in learning aerials to become a member of BLAM, CSU's swing dance team.
- Asking someone to dance:
At our events, it is encouraged that both girls and guys ask each other to dance. Many of the girls at our events also know how to lead and are comfortable dancing with each other. Unless you really don't want to, it is polite to always say yes.
- When the song
ends:
Unless the dance is DJ'd, it is very important to applaud the band EVERY TIME. In addition, ALWAYS thank your partner for the dance.
Dance with partners of all
skill levels:
This is the only way beginning dancers grow and the only way advanced dancers perfect their skills (especially leads!) Don't be shy! Remember: no matter what, smile! Concentrate! Suppress the urge to apologize! If you are more advanced than your partner, be polite, stick to things they can do, and always try to make them feel like the dance was a lot of fun.
