MSA is proud to present Industry vs. Academia seminar ;) ;) ;) ;) Event details: Speaker: Frederique de Lame, PhD in training
Date: 12/05/11Time: 12:30-1:30pm Place: Flintridge Room ( USU Plaza, Once in the
plaza, you should pass the Subway, the Meeting Services office, the
International Students office, and walk the building where the gym
is. Take the elevators on your left to the second floor. Once out of the
elevators go forward and the room would be in front of you:) If you
need more clarification, please, see the map attached (#25 on the map)
A
little bit about the speaker. Frederique de Lame ( Freddie) , is a PhD
student at UCLA. She worked for many years in the industry with her BS
and MS degrees. About a year ago she decided to go back to school to
attain her PhD. In her seminar, Freddie will talk about what it's like
to be out there in the industry looking for jobs, as well as what are
the pros and cons of the working for a private companies. She'll also
talk about what drove her decision to go back to school for PhD and why
she wants to work in the academic environment in the future. Freddie's
story will relate to most students in this economy, but especially to
women who are married and have families. At the end of her speech,
attendees will have an opportunity to ask her questions. Whether you are
planing to work after you graduate or want to go to a graduate school,
Freddie will be happy to give you an advise of how to prepare for your
journey. ;) |

Monday, October 31, 2011 12:30-1:30pm Flintridge Room in the USU plaza
Food, beverages, and candy will be served!
Please, come in dressed up because we'll have a costume contest. The first place winner with the most original costume will recieve a campus gift card and the 2nd place winner will recive one free MSA T-shirt with the design of his/her choice.
FYI. The Flintridge Room is located in the USU plaza( which is the plaza across the street from Science 3 and 4 ). Once in the plaza, you should pass the Subway, the Meeting Services office, the International Students office, and walk into the building where the gym is. Have you ever wondered what role microbes play in wine making? ... or why people smell their wine before drinking it? What is the difference between white and red wines? Why are some wines considered dry and others not? Well, you are in luck! During our event, Dr. Baresi will talk about the importance of microbiology in wine making. He will also explain the important aspects of wine tasting... so the next time you are at a restaurant tasting wine, you can be a cool wine specialist :)
