A student's workload throughout a semester can really get busy, but as EOH majors we must look to helping our community as a duty that we will be addressing often in our careers. EOHSA understands these schedule conflicts, but is committed to community involvement through either physical labor or expanding knowledge. The information below shows several ways EOHSA members can get involved with community events. Through your active participation, we wish to reward members through recognitions such as the "President's Volunteer Service Award." (PVSA) President's Volunteer Service Award Background:"The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation (the Council) was established in 2003 to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in our communities and encourage more people to serve. The Council created the President’s Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service." EOHSA's Involvement: EOHSA has officially become a certifying organization for the PVSA. Meaning that we can approve hours of community service, which in turn you can earn great recognitions. Recognitions such as an official PSVA lapel pin, a personalized certificate from the PVSA, and a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States. So signup and track your hours. 3 Ways to get involved and start earning hours: 1. Get involved in your community through SERVE.GOV 2. Heal the Bay with EOHSA (See EOHSA Events for details) 3. FEMA's Independent Study Program (See details below) FEMA Independent Study Program
EOHSA is making community service hours convenient for all of our members by making volunteering available 24/7. Through FEMA's Independent Study Programs (ISPs) EOHSA will reward community service hours for the completion of select courses related to our future careers in this profession. Through the use of the ISPs we hope students gain new skills, knowledge, and leadership that would be likely be passed up otherwise. Upon passing each course and it's final exam you will be rewarded a certificate of completion from FEMA. We have listed the select courses and their related hours that will be recorded toward the PVSA. Only those courses listed below will be accepted. Also courses may or may not take the number of hours listed to complete and EOHSA will not raise or lower hours "expected" to complete the course. Please forward any certificates to csuneohsa@gmail.com to be credited for your work. Good luck and enjoy! FEMA ISP Course Listings:
