TCA 221 Overview
This course is designed to provide students with a more in-depth analysis of accounting specializing on the hospitality accounting process. Students will gain a concentrated understanding of hospitality financial accounting concepts. The emphasis of the course is to use accounting information to make executive managerial decisions and to strengthen students understanding of the hospitality financial statements. Overall objectives of this course include:
Ø Understand the major components of the Hospitality Balance Sheet and be able to interpret the financial information presented in this statement. Ø Understand the major components of the Hospitality Income Statement and be able to interpret the financial information presented in this statement. Ø Understand the major components of the Hospitality Statement of Cash Flows and be able to interpret the financial information presented in this statement. Ø Understand the basic concepts of financial analysis and the use of key ratios to assess a company’s financial situation. Ø Understand the essentials of managing important assets such as cash, receivables, inventory, fixed assets, intangibles, and other assets. Ø Understand the essentials of managing major liability and related accounts such as payroll, accounts payable and long-term debt. Ø Make executive management decisions based on ratio analysis. Ø Learn the basics of operating budgets and understand the managerial impact on operating budgets. Ø Learn financial planning and understanding the process for growth and expansion in the hospitality industry. Ø Learning internal controls and safeguarding company assets.
At the end of this course, students should be able to read and interpret financial statements and understand the financial reporting process. Students should also be able to create operating and departmental budgets and understand the daily financial operations in the hospitality industry. |
