MLS Camp Begins

Presentation Outline

1 Motivation for Website
During my junior and senior years of high school, the philanthropic soccer camp I created was a significant part of my life.  I was always trying to find donors to tell them how much of an amazing experience playing soccer was for the students, pushing them to donate.  Once I had the money, I went to Bennett-Kew Elementary to tell the students what an amazing program they had the opportunity to participate in.  The camp was my brain child and I guess since i left it i have had a little bit of separation anxiety.  This website will be a great way for me to reconnect with camp and keep on contributing several hundred miles away.  The internet is the perfect tool to stay connected when geography tells you otherwise.

2 Objectives
The main goal that I seek (as should anyone with a profit or nonprofit company) is to see that the MLS Soccer Camp at Bennett-Kew Elementary will succeed into the future.  The way that I hope to achieve this goal is to create a website that is interactive with both donors and people interested in the soccer camp.

I created a performa both Junior and Senior year of high school, yet updating and rebinding this tool was not the most efficient.  I believe that a website will better serve that purpose and give donors constant information that can be updated readily.  This complete availability will aid donors to know exactly what they are giving to.

A lay out of pictures and information to get everyone excited for the camp will be available for parents and students.  Everyone will be better informed on the camp and will fully appreciate the gift that is being given to them.

3 Layout
Perhaps one of the best facets of the application will be the availability of students submitting their application online through the website.  This process will hopefully get students more in touch with the internet and force the students to interact with the entire website.  This will make the job of selecting the students to participate in the camp much easier and be able to transfer the information to an excel spreadsheet very quick and easy.  Students will be able to alter their answers without scribbling out wrong words and will make the application paragraph very legible.

4 Intended Audience
    Donors
The web-site's first focus will be given to potential donors who would like to see a little more about the camp before donating and past donors who would like to see the product of their donation.  To appease this audience, it will be very clear how every dollar contributes to the well being of a child that really got the most out of their experience.  Hopefully the site will include bios of student-players and how they grew as an individual from the camp.

    Philanthropists
My second target is the teachers, administrators, and unconnected philanthropists from different schools who would like to start up a similar program to the one I founded.  Hopefully, my site will provide enough information and description so that they could easily create this second or third camp with mine as their model.  I may include contact information to previous donors, my liaison with the MLS Soccer Camp headquarters, and to administrators at Bennett-Kew Elementary if they have any questions regarding their policies.

    Students & Teachers
Lastly, my focus will be to get the students and teachers of Bennett-Kew Elementary excited for the camp.  I may include a count down to the start of the camp and pictures depicting the great time the students had the previous years.  I will include a second list of player bios that are put in an "elementary student friendly" vocabulary.  Links will be added to child friendly online game, professional teams' websites, and you tube clips of amazing soccer plays to fire up the students for camp.

5 Future Outlook
The future of the project lies in how well this website conveys the importance of this camp to new philanthropists and donors.  The success of the camp is dependent on those two facets: the money and people to run the camp.  If the website does not bring in new donors or draws closer existing donors then the camp cannot expand to other locations; in addition, if the camp receives a lot of money but there is no one to manage it then the camp will fail to expand.  Both are crucial to the expansion of the camp.

6 Potential Issues
Because of the possible inaccessibility to the internet in an area such as Inglewood, California, there may be some difficulty in giving access all students.  Research will have to be conducted to see the number of students who have a computer at home and access to the internet.  If this is found to be very low then maybe a program could be started at the school to get students more familiar with computers in the classroom.  It sounded like Professor Barr did a similar project in East Palo Alto; maybe that project could be emulated to teach these students at Bennett-Kew Elementary School.
