Dear Friends, First we want to wish you a happy and prosperous New Year in 2011. And, second, we want to announce that planning for the next Old Time Chili Cook-Off 2011 is in full swing. We will officially open registration for chili cooks through press releases and social networking next week. As you know, Randolph Heritage Conservancy, Inc., a local historical preservation organization, took the lead in 2010 and made the Cook-Off a successful spring event for Asheboro and Randolph County. We want to thank all of you for your support of last year's event and hope that you will support the 2011 Cook-Off. The Cook-Off is not a craft fair or street market; it's a food and music festival where people can eat chili, listen to music and just relax. They may even win a door prize with the ticket they receive when they pay the $5.00 admission fee. The only people selling anything will be the hot dog, hamburger, funnel cake, barbecue, lemonade, and ice cream vendors! And there will be a beer garden! We are once again proud to partner the Cook-Off with Golden Corral Restaurant's Cruisin' for Miracles Car Show. The Car Show and Chili Cook-Off brought approximately 4,000 people to Bicentennial Park and we anticipate bigger numbers in 2011. Hot cars and hot chili make a winning combination! To keep the Old Time Chili Cook-Off happening we need a variety of community support: sponsors (cash or in-kind), door prize contributions, and volunteers to sell tickets and run the event. You can help by just forwarding this email to your friends and business contacts! A planning meeting will be held January 12th, 7:00PM, at Magnolia 23 Restaurant located at 23 S. Fayetteville Street, Asheboro. If you have ideas and would like to help make our event more successful, please join us. If you can't attend the meeting, send me your ideas or suggestions by email.
