Due to the forecast of inclement weather, we have resheduled our Cruisin' For Miracles Car Show and Old Time Chili Cook-Off to Sunday April 17, 2011. We will begin automobile registration at 9:00 am and end at 1:30 pm. We believe this will allow everyone time for any plans on Sunday morning and still be able to attend our Car Show and support our local children in the afternoon. We hope the change will not adversely effect anyone with our event, but feel this is the best time since the forecast for Sunday is SUNNY and 70 DEGREES! It should be a beautiful day with lots of fun. Please come out and support the Children's Miracle Network, Randolph Heritage Conservancy, and all of our great local business sponsors. We hope to see everyone Sunday! |

Dear Friends,
First we want to wish you a happy and prosperous New Year in 2011.
And, second, we want to announce that planning for the next Old Time Chili Cook-Off 2011 is in full swing. We will officially open registration for chili cooks through press releases and social networking next week. As you know, Randolph Heritage Conservancy, Inc., a local historical preservation organization, took the lead in 2010 and made the Cook-Off a successful spring event for Asheboro and Randolph County.
We want to thank all of you for your support of last year's event and hope that you will support the 2011 Cook-Off. The Cook-Off is not a craft fair or street market; it's a food and music festival where people can eat chili, listen to music and just relax. They may even win a door prize with the ticket they receive when they pay the $5.00 admission fee. The only people selling anything will be the hot dog, hamburger, funnel cake, barbecue, lemonade, and ice cream vendors! And there will be a beer garden!
We are once again proud to partner the Cook-Off with Golden Corral Restaurant's Cruisin' for Miracles Car Show. The Car Show and Chili Cook-Off brought approximately 4,000 people to Bicentennial Park and we anticipate bigger numbers in 2011. Hot cars and hot chili make a winning combination!
To keep the Old Time Chili Cook-Off happening we need a variety of community support: sponsors (cash or in-kind), door prize contributions, and volunteers to sell tickets and run the event. You can help by just forwarding this email to your friends and business contacts!
A planning meeting will be held January 12th, 7:00PM, at Magnolia 23 Restaurant located at 23 S. Fayetteville Street, Asheboro. If you have ideas and would like to help make our event more successful, please join us. If you can't attend the meeting, send me your ideas or suggestions by email.
Thanks for your continued support. Cindy Wilkins

Dear Golden Corral Managers:
Thank you Golden Corral for being a strong and vital partner to our hospitals over the past 5 years. Your dedication and help in the past and your commitment to help in the upcoming spring campaign has and will impact the lives of countless children. Without your help in being one of our wonderful sponsors, our hospitals would not have the funding to help those children in need.
Every child deserves the hope and healing of children's hospitals. Because of wonderful sponsors like Golden Corral who help with fundraising campaigns, our hospitals are able to help children of all ages and backgrounds receive treatment for every imaginable disease and injury - from asthma and borken bones to cancer and heart defects. Our hospitals are also on the front lines of research, education and outreach programs that keep millions of kids out of the hospital each year.
Your restaurants have raised over $2.64 million in their fundraising campaigns over the past five years. These funds have been raised - one dollar at a time. To the 17 million children treated at Children's Miracle Network hospitals each year, every dollar matters and we thank you!
On behalf of everyone at Children's Miracle Network and the millions of children who benefit from your efforts, i would like to say thank you! Every day a child is helped by funds raised from a generous customer or employee who they will never meet or will never be able to thank. Your efforts are truly appreciated!
Marie Osmond Co-Founder, Children's Miracle Network

Chili, Music and Shiny Cars Make New Asheboro Event
ASHEBORO, N.C. – When Forbes Magazine claimed in 2008 that Asheboro was a dying town, local community leaders and business owners weren’t happy. The following year, a local businessman started a new festival, the Asheboro Chili Cookoff. It was a raving success, but he moved away. So one of the sponsoring organizations has stepped forth to continue the momentum.
But there are some changes – like the name, rules and awards.
It has changed to the Old Time Chili Cookoff and it will be held on Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bicentennial Park in Historic Downtown Asheboro. Various prizes will be given, including a People’s Choice Award. And, the event will be held in conjunction with a street rod and classic car cruise-in.
The Randolph Heritage Conservancy, Inc. is putting on the event in conjunction with the Golden Corral restaurant in Asheboro.
In the midst of planning, cookoff organizers found out that the Asheboro Golden Corral was already planning to hold a fundraiser in downtown on that same day. It is a cruise-in to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN).
The local restaurant is located in the division that supports the CMN efforts at Duke Hospital in Durham. Golden Corral, Inc. is a corporate sponsor of CMN, with restaurants in the northern Triad supporting Wake Forest Hospital.
So everyone got together and hammered out a cooperative event: “Cruisin’ for Miracles” at the Old Time Chili Cookoff.
This is the fourth year that Golden Corral has held a cruise-in. “We were running out of space in our parking lot,” explains Gerald Cain, operations manager for the Asheboro restaurant, “so we decided to move elsewhere. Downtown Asheboro was the perfect spot.”
Conservancy president Mac Whatley feels the collaboration will bring more people to both events, increase awareness of local museums and historical efforts and the CMN – and give local people something else fun to do.
Cooks and judges will follow guidelines established through national and international rules and regulations. The deadline to register to cook chili is April 12.
For more information about the chili event, log onto www.OldTimeChiliCookoff.com, visit Old Time Chili Cookoff on Facebook or call 336-430-8372 or 336-629-1989. To register for the car show, email carshow@cruisin4miracles.us or call 336-625-6734.

Golden Corral of Asheboro, NC will be sponsoring their 4th Annual Cruisin' For Miracles car show in April. The annual event is a fundraiser to provide support to Duke Children's Hospital in Durham. The donations go to the Children's Miracle Network and are directed to our local hospital for children. The event has been so successful in the past that it has become necessary to move to a larger location. Stay tuned for more information coming soon! |
