Cegep/Undergraduate - Graduate Students of Colour Mentorship Session


Are you an undergraduate or Cegep student of colour that is interested in pursuing graduate studies in the future? Not sure where to go or what field of study to pursue?

 

Come to our mentorship session and sign up to speak one-on-one with someone who is currently doing their graduate or professional studies in your field and/or area of interest! You can sign up to speak in 30 minute time slots with up to 3 mentors!

 

Below is a confirmed list of graduate and professional students who are open and willing to talk to you about their experiences and areas of interest.

My interests include racial, sexuality, and gendered representations of girls, women in popular culture and current work focuses on issues regarding “Latina” media/communication studies. I’ve completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Concordia University, a Master of Science in Gender and Media from the London School of Economics and Political Science.”


Kenza Oumlil

Kenza Oumlil is a doctoral candidate in the Joint PhD program in Communication Studies at Concordia University. Her research interests include representations of Arab and Muslims in the media, feminist and critical race studies and postcolonial theory. Kenza completed a Bachelor and a Masters of Arts in Communication at San Francisco State University.


Ainsley Jenicek

I am currently a student in Concordia’s Media Studies program and, prior to this, I completed a Joint Honours degree at McGill in Canadian Studies and Women’s Studies. My areas of interest revolve around representations of racialized, gendered, classed and sexually diverse groups in popular media. I am currently working on my Master’s thesis, which examines how Oprah’s media empire, spiritual show, and her recent online discussion forum participate in the solidification of and resistance against therapeutic governance.


Dana Salter

PhD Student, Education

Dana is a doctoral candidate in Education at McGill. Her research focuses on young people in alternative high school systems and how they engage with emerging digital technologies outside of school and how this may help in school learning. She also sings in a band.


Sarah Malik

Masters Student, Political Science

McGill University

I’m working towards an M.A. in Political Science at McGill University, Montreal.  In my current work I use novels written by authors of South Asian descent to build a critique of multiculturalism from the perspective of excluded or caught-in-between visible minorities.  My research interests include identity, democratic citizenship, social movements, and art as political expression.  I completed a Baccalaureate in Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa, and have worked with marginalized communities 3 years and counting.
