Crescent Gifted Center
Teacher of the Gifted -
Vicki Moss
The elementary gifted program is an enrichment program that enhances the student's academic curriculum. It is designed to identify and address academic strength areas of each gifted student through an individualized education plan. This plan follows the WV Content Standards for the 4 core academic areas: Language Arts/Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies. Additionally, students will begin studying Spanish while at the center.
The Gifted Center located at Crescent Elementary provides gifted services to students from Crescent Elementary, Hollywood Elementary, Mabscott Elementary, Lester Elementary, Fairdale Elementary, and St. Francis de Sales Catholic School.
Gifted students attend the gifted center one day each week. Those students in the 5th grade receive services on Mondays. Students in the 4th grade participate on Tuesdays. On Wednesdays students in grades 2 and 3 from St. Francis attend. On Thursdays the remaining 3rd grade students from the above mentioned schools will attend. Each Friday 2nd grade students from Mabscott, Hollywood, and Crescent will meet with Mrs. Moss and Mrs. Nettles together.
Students from Hollywood Elementary, Mabscott Elementary, Lester Elementary, Fairdale Elementary, and St. Francis are transported to and from the Crescent Gifted Center by school bus. They arrive at approximately 9:00 AM and depart for their home schools at approximately 1:30 PM. While at Crescent they are given the opportunity to purchase hot lunch while attending the Gifted Program. If they choose not to purchase hot lunch, they may bring a cold lunch and drink. Those bringing a cold lunch may purchase milk for 25 cents.
An information letter will be sent home at the beginning of the school year describing what the students can expect. I am asking each student to have a 3 ring zippered binder with dividers so that they may keep their papers organized. If at any time you need to contact Mrs. Moss, you may do so by calling 304 256-4585. Mrs. Moss' planning period is from 7:40 AM until 8:10 AM. I am looking forward to working with your children.
In the near future, (December 2009), all of my students will be participating in a new program purchased recently by the Special Education Department. This program, Renzulli Learning, is an interactive, web-based, goal-setting tool that establishes student ownership of his/her education. It supports students in their identification and pursuit of social, academic, and ultimately economic goals, both short and long-term. This differentiated learning style provides for the student to create a living portfolio of both academic and personal goals associated with self-selected interests, role-models and career choices. It also provides your child a phenonmenal and fun educational experience.
A letter is being sent home with information about this program. It will include your child's username and password. They will be able to access this at any time from any computer. There is also a tool for parents to create an account.
