Wikis

A wiki is a website that allows visitors to add, remove, and edit content.
Since wikis reside on the Internet, students can access and participate from any location, provided they have Internet access.
From an instructional technology perspective, wikis allow faculty and students to engage in collaborative activities that might not
be possible in a classroom.
Wikis simplicity provide students with direct  access to a site’s content, which is important in group editing or collaborative project activities.
A wiki’s versioning capability shows the evolution of the processes as students interact with the site and its contents. Collaborative projects may promote “pride of authorship” and ownership in the project.  Wikis are being used as e-portfolios, illustrating their utility as a tool for collection and reflection.
Teachers may choose to get together on a Wiki project also.  For example: Teachers of English may wish to contribute their information, lesson plans and other resources to the Wiki in order to share their information and receive useful resources in return.
