Hermit crabs need exercise too, and they have been known to walk miles a day in the wild.

I have found that my hermit crab take to a hamster wheel quit well. They move slowly of course, but they take turns that can last hours.

If you are interested in trying this, get a small solid-plastic hamster wheel without any bare metal. The wider the wheel the better. I have not tried a wire wheel because I feel their legs may get caught in it.

About us

CrabDr is a group of hermit crab enthusiasts with members all around the world. Many of us regularly read scientific research available on hermit crabs, and some even have personal contacts with researchers in the field.

This group is full of advice and experimental treatment ideas for symptoms that include lethargy, dropping limbs, streaking, and more.

However, the advice of any member of CrabDr should be taken at your discretion. We are here to help and to provide information, but you decide how to use it

Helping your sick hermit crab

If you currently have a sick crab, please download the intake form and email it back to me. I will assess your crab's situation and direct you to an appropriate treatment and tank setup. You are also welcome to join and post to the forum, currently on yahoo, for group support. There you will also have access to many files and links specifically about hermit crab health.
