Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Qs.)

Q. How do I enter the computer lab?

A. Enter quietly in a single file line and make sure that you have clean hands.  Use the hand sanitizer located by the door if your hands are dirty.  Press the dispenser one time and rub your hands together until they are dry.

Walk towards the back of the room and sit down facing the screen.  There is enough room to sit four across.  Sit down starting from the back to the front of the room with your feet crossed and hands in your lap.  Do not talk and keep your eyes on the screen.  When everyone is ready, the teacher will demonstrate the day's activity on the projector.  Raise your hand if you have a question and wait quietly to be called on.

After the instructions are given, stand up and walk quietly to your assigned seat and begin your work.

Q. Can I have gum, candy or other food while I am in the computer lab?

A.  You cannot bring in food or water into the computer lab.  We need to keep the carpet and tables clean.  Food and water can damage a computer if it gets into the mouse, monitor or keyboard.  If you have food in your mouth, make sure it is gone before entering the computer lab.  Spit gum into the garbage can next to the door upon entering.

Q. How do I leave the computer lab?

A. Five minutes before the end of class, begin saving any work to your teacher's folder space.  Click on the File=>Save As button. Make sure you save the file using your first initial and last name (example: jstewart).  Press Save and make sure you see your name on the top left corner of the screen.  It is now safe to exit by clicking on the "X" on the top right corner of the screen.

Put away materials (paper, pencils, CDs) from each row and place your headphones neatly on the table with the cords off the floor.  Make sure your cup is back beside your computer. Push in your chair and wait quietly behind it.  The teacher will dismiss by rows that are ready and quiet.  Walk to the door single file and wait quietly for your teacher to pick you up.

Q. I need to use the bathroom.

A. First, you should use the bathroom before coming down to the computer lab with your teacher if it is an emergency.  You will have to wait until the teacher is finished giving instructions for the day's activity before using the bathroom pass. The bathroom pass located on the front table.  There is one pass for boys and one for girls.  Take the pass and place it where you sit before leaving for the bathroom. When you return, place the pass back on the front table for the next person that needs it.  Only one boy and one girl can go at one time.

Q. My computer screen is blank.

A. Press the spacebar or move your mouse to "wake up" your computer.  If that does not work, make sure that the Power Button light on the computer monitor is on.  If it isn't press the Power Button one time. If that doesn't work, put your cup up and wait quietly for the teacher.

Q. I don't know what to do and need help.

A.  Ask the two people next to you for help before asking the teacher.  If those two people can't help you, place the cup next to you on top of the monitor and wait quietly for the teacher or other helpers to come to you. Do not leave your seat and find the teacher.  If the teacher is busy with someone else, try to figure it out again or work on another part of the assignment.

Q. My computer is frozen (Mouse and/or keyboard won't work)

A. Place the cup next to you on top of the monitor and wait for the teacher to fix it.

Q. I can't open the computer program.

A. First, make sure you double click using the left mouse button over the icon. If you are using a CD, make sure that the CD tray is closed completely and try double clicking the icon again.
