Software Requirements

The following software programs are required for the activities in the Celebrate Oklahoma Voices project. All these programs are freely available. Some programs are only available on some computer operating systems / platforms, however, as noted. Software must be installed PRIOR to the start of a COV workshop, on both host site-provided worktations and/or participant-provided laptops.

Windows XP and Vista Workstations

  1. Audacity
  2. PhotoStory 3

Windows MovieMaker software is available for Windows XP and Vista computers, but our workshop focus on digital stories including audio and still images is better suited for PhotoStory 3. MovieMaker software is NOT required for the COV workshop.

Macintosh OS X Workstations

  1. Audacity
  2. iMovie (Note iMovie 6 is available as a free download if a license for iLife '08 is owned, and may be optionally installed as well.)
Optional Software
Previous COV workshops used the Olympus WS-110 recorder, which recorded audio in WMA format instead of MP3 or WAV. Participants who have this older recorder need Switch software to convert WMA audio to MP3 or WAV. (Note the commercial "Switch Plus" software is NOT required, just the FREE, basic "Switch" program.) Switch software is NOT required for current COV workshops, which use a newer Sony recorder capable of recording directly in MP3 format.

Flip4Mac software was recommended for Mac users when the WMA recording format was used. It is no longer required, but is still recommended along with Perian. Both are free software programs which extend the multimedia capabilities of Mac/Apple computers.
