How much does it cost to attend or hold a COV Phase 1 workshop?

posted ‎‎Jan 13, 2009 11:35 AM‎‎ by Wesley Fryer   [ updated ‎‎Aug 12, 2009 12:13 AM‎‎ ]
"Celebrate Oklahoma Voices" Phase 1 workshops are currently offered according to several models. Individual or organizational costs depend on the funding model which applies to the workshop. The same workshop curriculum, equipment, and schedule applies for all phase 1 workshops. PLEASE NOTE THIS PRICING APPLIES ONLY TO OKLAHOMA SCHOOLS. If you are interested in a Storychasers workshop, are located outside of Oklahoma or are not affiliated with an Oklahoma school, please contact Storychasers directly.

Organizational Workshops

These are workshops for which a school organization pays the entire cost.

For budgeting calculations the following formula is used for these professional development workshops costs, NOT including travel expenses for participating teachers:

  • Base cost for a 2.5 day COV workshop with 3 facilitators: $3000
  • Per participant costs (10 participant minimum, 25 participant maximum per workshop): $400

Using this formula, a COV workshop for 10 teacher participants costs $7000. A COV workshop for 25 teacher participants costs $13,000. Note these costs DO include "digital backpack" recording and storytelling equipment for each teacher participant. School districts may need to budget additional travel and hotel costs for teacher participants which is NOT included in this cost formula. This cost formula covers curriculum, supplies, and facilitator costs for each workshop.

COV project facilitators will make every effort to provide each workshop in the local, requesting school district.

If "slots" are available for an organizational workshop, individual Oklahoma educators may pay or their school/organization may pay for them to attend the COV workshop at a cost of $520 each. This cost provides equity for organizations paying for workshops, since the total cost of a 25 participant COV workshop is $13,000 using the above formula and $520 x 25 = $13,000. The base cost formula is required for workshops rather than a strict $520 per participant cost because of fixed facilitator costs. The $520 per person rate only applies for "extra" slots not filled by a hosting organization.

Individual Application, Organizationally-hosted Workshops

These are workshops hosted by organizations (generally schools) and funded according to the payment model details above. If slots remain which are not taken by the hosting organization, individual educators can apply to attend. The cost per participant is $520. Please see this FAQ for specific instructions about finding out if slots are available for a particular workshop you'd like to attend.

Individual Application, Grant Supplemented Workshops

These are workshops for which individual educators may apply to participate. Provision of these grant-supplemented workshops is dependent on COV/Storychasers winning new grants, like our 2008 AT&T grant. The per-participant cost is $150 each. The remainder of the workshop cost is supplemented by a grant obtained by the COV project. The $150 per-participant cost can be paid either by the individual educator or by the school organization. In the case the school organization pays this fee, the organization retains ownership over the digital storytelling equipment provided during the workshop.
