Picture a Greener Countryside Welcome to the Countryside Green Team Page Mission Statement Countryside Elementary, along with the other Edina Elementary schools, has gone "green". We are committed to doing our part to reduce our carbon footprint through: -Community Awareness -Student & Family Education -Providing an eco-friendly school environment
Composting in the Cafeteria
Last year, Countryside students began sorting their lunchroom waste into trash, recycling and composting bins. We will continue this year with parent and student monitoring, all children will learn what goes where and help reduce our landfill contribution by 90% as has happened in other schools who have piloted this program. Students will be provided with bio-degradable utensils and cups. Sodexho has other eco-friendly changes planned and will be implementing them throughout the school year.
How your Family will Participate
Our 5th grade recycling team will lead the way in training and lunchroom monitoring. For a period of time we will ask for parent volunteers to come during the lunch hour to help monitor and educate the students. School events will become more eco-responsible. Don’t worry, your kids will show you what to do. Changes you make in the school lunches you pack will help us achieve our goals.
Changes You Can Make at Home
Learn to pack a zero-waste lunch Avoid single-serve packaging Use compartmented lunch boxes and skip the plastic bags-- try WAX paper bags instead! Foil juice pouches are not recyclable Buy reusable shopping bags…and remember to bring them along Invest in compact fluorescent lighting Reduce-Re-use-Recycle
