Melinda Civic received an associate’s degree in criminal justice at Schenectady County Community College and expects to continue studies at Sage College of Albany. Raised in a family committed to community service, today she not only volunteers, but also inspires others to join her. A Phi Theta Kappa student, she has been active in the Spanish Club, Criminal Justice Club, and Student Volunteer Organization, and she interned at a probation department. She was also president of the Tutor Networking Club. Named to the SCCC President’s List, she was honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award and the Burnham Award for achievement and service.
Happy graduates head for the Slep Student Center for a reception following commencement ceremonies. Saturday's ceremonies marked the first year that students enrolled in Penn State Altoona's history major received their degrees. Of the total student candidates for degrees, 192 received baccalaureate degrees and 77 received associate degrees. The most popular majors included nursing (51 graduates), engineering technology (41 graduates), business (40 graduates) and criminal justice (34 graduates).
