![]() If you've made a difference by volunteering in your community over the past year, you could win $1,000 and a fabulous trip to Washington, D.C., next May - by applying for a Prudential Spirit of Community Award! Even more importantly, you could win recognition that might inspire other young people to follow your example. These prestigious awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, have honored more than 80,000 middle level and high school students over the past 13 years solely for their volunteer work.
If you are in grades 5-12 and are conducting a volunteer-service activity, you are eligible for the next annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. During the application period, which takes place at the beginning of every school year, you may apply online by clicking here and following the on-screen instructions. Once you have completed your online application, print it out, sign it, have a parent or guardian sign it, and then submit it to your school principal or to the head of a Girl Scout council, county 4-H organization, American Red Cross chapter, YMCA, or affiliate of HandsOn Network. If you are selected by one of these individuals to be a Local Honoree, they will certify your application and nominate you for state-level judging. If you need a paper version of the application form, call 1-877-525-8491. Applications must be completed by Oct. 31, 2008, and must be certified by a participating school or organization by Nov. 7, 2008, to be eligible. Good luck! |
