Despite some initial delays, mostly relating to small design changes and contractual matters, work will now start in May 2009 on the much needed new Library on the site of the car park next to the Customer Service Centre on Aikman Avenue. This follows a bid to the Big Lottery, from which we won an award of £1.5 million to develop the new library and community learning. I, along with my colleagues, have been involved with this project since it was decided to submit a bid and we are delighted that New Parks finally gets something new to boast about after many years of being left out of funding bids. We will continue to look for new ideas and funding opportunities to help the local communities.
