I visited another client's (Micato Safaris) in Mukruru Slum of Nairobi. This project is targeting adolescent girls living in one of Nairobi's largest slum - Mukuru. Here Micato runs a microfinace program which makes reusable sanitary napkins for girls. Often times, young girls are forced out of school because of their menstrual cycle as parents are unable to afford the prices for disposable pads. The disposable pads also turn up in drains, sewers etc clogging the system in the already poorly sanitized and overly crowded slum. This is Emily demonstrating how to shape the napking along the assembly line.
