Les Bell

Les died in August 2011.  He was a close friend as well as a tremendous artist. We remember him through his own words and his art.

I am drawn to historical images, often overlaid, as in memory, or recollection of experiences.

Buildings and man-made objects in the landscape are recurring themes.

My background in engineering combines with my love of history and nature to create paintings with interest, atmosphere and tension.

Time and place and a sense of belonging to and being part of Britain's history play a crucial role in arriving at my themes and motifs.

My practice includes still life, colour-field, figurative and abstract paintings.
