MCDONALD FRANCHISES - FRANCHISE INFORMATION SERVICES - FRANCHISE GAME. Mcdonald Franchises
McDonald's Downey (California USA) The 1953 McDonald's restaurant at the corner of the Lakewood Boulevard and Florence Boulevard was the third franchised McDonald's built and is the oldest surviving red white tile McDonald's. It was listed on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's 1994 list of the Most Endangered Historic Places. It was one of the first restaurants franchised by Dick and Mac McDonald, prior to the involvement of Ray Kroc in the company, and it still has the original "Golden Arches" and a 60-root animated neon "Speedee" sign, McDonald's very first mascot. With low sales, damage from the 1994 Northridge earthquake, and the lack of a drive-thru facility and indoor seating, the restaurant was closed. However with both the public and preservationists demanding the restaurant be saved, McDonald's spent 2 years restoring the restaurant and reopened it. Still without indoor seating and drive-thru. Customers today can visit the original restaurant and an adjoining gift shop and museum. /\/\cDonald's Downey 10207 Lakewood Boulevard Lakewood CA Phone: 562-622-9248 Store #: 3 Grand Opening: 18/08/1953 Inside McDonalds
I circumnavigated the McDonalds but couldn't find any way inside. All the main entrances were bolted from the inside. Most of the windows had blinds over them. This was the best I could do to get a look inside. It doesn't look too different that anything you might see today, although the menu over the counter is missing.
