CBC Bicycle Discussion Series

Every Sunday at 1PM

Student Sustainability Center

738 SW 15th Street

Corvallis, Oregon 97333

PURPOSE: To present important ideas/information for bicyclists of all varieties and experience levels.  To show how bicycles can work for the individual and the community.  To glean knowledge and insight from experienced community members.

May 23rd: Bridging the Gap Between Bikers’ Rants and Government Action

What does land use law have to do with biking? Plenty. This discussion covers the following topics:

  • Corvallis' land use planning and bikes - a brief history, overview, and future.
  • How does a complaint become a law - lobbying your city and state government on issues of biking infrastructure.
  • The city's needs and resources - how bikers and the city can help each other
  • Best land use planning for biking in small cities

May 30th: How do Bicyclists get Groceries?

How can you carry bags, laptops, spare coats, tools, and even suitcases on a bicycle?  It’s easy if you know how, inexpensive to add racks onto any bike, and no more time-consuming than loading a car.  A local car-free family will share their strategies to move everyday stuff on bikes.  They will demonstrate the use of racks, milk crates, and panniers, followed by discussion of the pros and cons of those and many other setups.  Brought to you in conjunction with Cycle Solutions – Getting Bikes To Work.
