The Dave Panella Memorial Cyclocross race was another great showing for the Corning Race Team! In all, four riders competed in the race, and placed 13th, 17th, and 19th in the Masters' Men race for Steve Burdette, Bobby Nunnink and Dave Prugh respectively. In the open Women's race, Ruth Sherman dominated the field once again on her path to USA Cycling Cyclocross Nationals in Bend, Oregon in two weeks.

Ruth Sherman dominated the Open Women's field by nearly 3 minutes and took the top step on the podium. Racers Steve Burdette, Bobby Nunnink and Dave Paccone raced to 15th, 28th and 33rd respectively in the Master's 40+ division. Great job once again to our race team members!

Dave Hansen travelled to Rhode Island this past Columbus Day for one of the last big road races of the season on the East Coast, the Jamestown Rotary Classic. In a large field, Dave raced to a fantastic 3rd place and a spot on the podium (and not by much - see finish photo below). Dave is well on his way to becoming a category 3 racer! http://www.velocityresults.net/results/241/jamestown-rotary-classic-jamestown-ri Image from http://www.VelocityResults.net |

On a chilly day on a tough and technical course, Dave Paccone raced to a 29th place finish in the Cobbs Hill Cyclocross Master's 40+ race promoted by Full Moon Vista in Rochester. Being new to the cyclocross sport, Dave has been improving each and every week! |

With the Race Team transitioning into the Cyclocross events, the road racing season is effectively over for 2009 and a great year it was! Where does one start when describing the great season that the team have had? Well, up until October 1st, the team has had 15 race wins, a fantastic number for a second year team. The team has participated in over 80 individual events throughout the year stretching as far away as Vermont, Massachusetts, Ohio and even Arizona! In those 80 races, team members have raced to over 130 top-ten finishes, proving that with time, focused training and teamwork, great results can be had. The team grew throughout the season and currently stands at 39 members.
As we move into 2010, the team will be expanding to include programs for Juniors, Women, and Triathletes, and the interest is already showing. All of these great things would not have been possible without the continued support by our sponsors of cycling here in the Southern Tier! Thank You! |

On Sunday September 13th, John Hertzler, Dave Hansen and Brian Klotz traveled to the Yuasa Right from the Start Criterium in Reading, PA to compete in some big time fields, as this was the PA state championships! In the Cat 4 race, John and Dave raced smart throughout the race. On the bell lap, John surged to the front on the hill and slotted himself nicely into the top 3 where he would stay until the final sprint where he took the victory! Dave Hansen finished strongly in the top 20 of the field. In the Cat 3/4 race, John joined Brian in another fast race. Both ended up in the top 20 for the race over over 50 riders. It was definitely a long drive, but it was well worth the trip!

Great job to Dave Hansen and Bruce Rohdenburg who took a long trip down to the Tour de Tamarack and competed in the 40 mile race! Racing against a very tough field, they pulled out some solid results!
