LA's giant socket wrench in the sky
The Library Tower or US Bank Building in downtown LA. I call it the socket wrench. It is the most visible landmark of downtown LA - which means that it is hidden beneath smog only half the time. This is a typical May day in LA - May Grey and June Gloom. The Sunshine State? Sorry, that's Florida.
Canopy Screw
At the front of old storefronts, you may see a device such as the one shown here. The store would own a wrench that they stick into the square socket and twist in order to expand a canopy over the front window of the store.
