Sunday 27th May:  Tour of  Coppetts Wood Local Nature Reserve. 

Meet 2:30 pm At the entrance, at Colney Hatch Lane   £2 per person, children free

A CIRCULAR tour lasting 1 – 2 hours.     Wear Old shoes as paths may be muddy

Tour Guide – Oliver Natelson.                   You will see:

  • Wayside flowers in bloom, trees, birds, butterflies – whatever passes on a summer breeze
  • Relics of the old sewage works and indeed some old sewage itself
  • Relics from WW2 – array of antitank traps

A tour of the outside – looking at some of its finer architectural points.

Cost: £1 adults, Children free. Tour time about half an hour

Sunday 10th June: Bat Tour of Coppetts Wood Local Nature Reserve 

Meet 8:45 pm (evening) at the entrance in Colney Hatch Lane to Coppetts Wood

£2 per person, children free.

 

To avoid over-subscribing,

A CIRCULAR TOUR lasting 1 – 2 hours starting before sunset and ending in the dark

While owls hoot, animals watch you in the darkness, bats scoot just inches above your head, Coppetts Wood is a different place at night - where you can see these wonderful but increasingly rare animals in astonishingly skilful flight paths feeding in mid-air.

Meet 2:30 pm at junction of Summers Lane & Upway. Bus 382

£2 per person, children free

A CIRCULAR walk lasting about 1 hour.

Wear old shoes as paths may be muddy

You will see:                                                                          

·       Hedges planted in the reign of George IV                                   

·       The former Finchley Isolation hospital

·       Sites of old gravel pits and brickworks for local houses.          

·       The Nature Reserve with its rare wildlife

·       Site of the 1940s piggeries, allotments of the 1890s and the 1990s  

·       The former Territorial Army Centre which started during WW1

Bring a plastic container with lid – for picking the best Blackberries in Finchley!
