Enterprise Resource Planning ERP: Catalyzing change at Hindustan Copper Limited Hindustan Copper Limited (A Government of India Enterprise) INTRODUCTION Enterprise Resource Planning system, or in short ERP, is being implemented at Hindustan Copper Limited to integrate operations across the many functions & locations in our organization. The objective is to create an automated environment which provides a seamless, organization wide system. ERP system is therefore, designed to model the many cross-functional linkages in our day to day operations and transactions. The holistic view, so developed in the system, is expected to facilitate optimization of HCL processes, achieve synergies and reduce costs. Further, by capturing information and data generated across all elements of the value chain, this system would prove to be a powerful tool, enabling analysis and planning not only on the financial side but also on the operation side. ERP. With its many benefits, would also necessitate changes in the way we do our business, our processes and practices. For instance, several processes have been re-designed to incorporate industry best practices which will help HCL enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of its resources. Adoption of these best practices would also mean that processes have to be standardized and a common codification methodology is followed across locations. This document attempts to outline these changes across all areas of HCL’s operations. In each of these areas, benefits catalyzed by the ERP implementation have also been highlighted.
