About

Check it out!  Melissa was recently featured on the Contra Syncretist blog!

Melissa has been dancing for almost ten years at the Glenside Thursday Night Contra Dance.  She also has visited area English and Scottish Country Dances.  Out of curiosity, she asked a friend one day how one becomes a caller, and soon after was calling her first dance.  She is known for her energy as a caller and as a dancer!

On June 2, 2011, Melissa debuted as a Coordinating Caller at the Glenside Thursday Night Contra Dance.

Melissa enjoys calling for experienced dancers as well as for first-timers who are out to have a good time.  She loves calling for weddings, birthdays, and other private events In 2011 she also tried her hand at co-calling the first Philly area Techno Contra.

Melissa is a classically trained pianist and choral conductor working in two Philadelphia area churches.  She dabbles in the ukulele and penny whistle, but she prefers appreciating the wonderful music created by the many bands she's met through calling. She has made appearances with SPUDS, a Philly area pick-up band.

When not at work or at at dance, Melissa is at home with her wonderful husband and cat in a suburb of Philadelphia.  She loves riding a tandem bike with her husband all over the Philly area, baking cakes, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and reading "The Cat Who" mysteries.
