What worked
- The instructional purpose existed first! (the horse)
The horse pulled the cart. The cart added value.
- Research component was central to the activity.
Technology expanded the research potential
- No longer limited by the 4 classroom walls and the 'experiment' we can construct.
- Deeper questioning. "So what?"
- Understanding that it's not "giving up science time" for technology
Research shows there will be a "loss" before the "gain" in content area
- Exerienced teacher with strong content area knowledge and good questioning skills
- Persistent, flexible tech integration specialist in the building
- Risk Takers
- Trust
- Understanding change process. "We only accept change when it benefits us"
Challenges
- Time for Planning
- Backup Plan when the technology doesn't work
- Students have different level of comfort with technology
- Valuing the student's digital literacies, but understanding their need for guidance into using these literacies.
- Being able to live with a certain amount of chaos (Learning is messy!)
