Connie Milstein Hosted Screening of "60 Minutes" Segment on CURE

** In October, 2009, Connie Milstein hosted a screening of a “60 Minutes” segment which featured the Axelrod family discussing their daughter Lauren’s struggle all her life with epilepsy.

The gathering took place in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. at Connie Milstein's gracious home. Among the guests were Vice President Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden; Rahm Emanuel, a good friend of the Axelrod family who has known Lauren since she was born, and his wife Amy; Representative Dutch Ruppersberger, democrat from Maryland; National Security Advisor General James Jones; Ambassador Richard Holbrooke; and many more friends and supporters.

Susan Axelrod is the founder and President of CURE, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy. CURE is a non-profit, volunteer organization founded by the parents of children with epilepsy when they found there was no way to protect their children from the catastrophic effects of seizures and side effects of strong medications.

As Susan Axelrod explained to Katie Couric on “60 Minutes”:

“There's nothing worse than having your child cognizant enough to know what's going on, and know what's happening, and begging you to help, and you can't do anything.”
